Education within Schools
SPICE (Schools Programme Incorporating Christian Education) is a project that has been running for the past decade and has gone into many schools in the local area. The SPICE team has shared on subjects such as 'saying no to drink and drugs', bullying, pier pressure, anger, community spirit and has been relevant to pupils and has been well received and challenging to thousands of young people. Quite often the SPICE team has used drama and music to get over the message and sometimes teams from other countries have joined this work. Currently SPICE is working in partnership with churches placing 'year out' volunteers to with local churches assisting with the young people who come to church, youth outreach and school visits. In 2000/2001 a young lady came from Norway and this academic year we have a young lady from America.

Agony of Ecstasy
The dangers of drink and drugs were just part of the message given when a group of young people from Chicago USA visited a local school at the invitation of SPICE (Schools Programme Incorporating Christian Education), another project that the Mission in Hounslow Trust supports. Feltham Community School, Lampton School in Hounslow, Ashford High School and Longford Community School all benefited from the wisdom of the visitors over a week long stay from the States, who themselves have all been victims of drug and alcohol addictions in the past.

The work is aimed at helping youngsters avoid drugs and crime and has included music workshops and a drama performance outside Tesco in Faggs Road. The climax was building 14 - foot long rockets out of rubbish which was completed and unveiled in full on the last Friday of the holiday. The aim was to have some fun in the holidays and to help kids make the right choices in life.
